Augmenting caregiver in-home safety practices via mHealth: A randomized controlled trial
نویسنده
چکیده
Unintentional injuries among under-fives represent an important cause of preventable morbidity in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In-home interventions targeting caregiver safety practices currently show promise in reducing household injury risks. Mobile health (mHealth) is emerging as a potentially cost effective platform for the delivery of critical health information in resource poor settings. The goal of this project is to introduce an mHealth intervention targeting households with a high risk for child burn injuries in Dar es Salaam. Supervising for Home Safety Program: A Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) Testing Community-Based Group Delivery.
Objective The individually delivered Supervising for Home Safety (SHS) program improves caregivers' injury-related beliefs and supervision practices. The current randomized controlled trial used a group delivery in a community setting and assessed program impact, feasibility, and acceptance. Methods Caregivers of 2-5-year-olds were randomized to receive either the SHS or an attention-matched ...

This randomized clinical trial tested a new self-directed educational intervention to improve caregiver competence to create a safer home environment for persons with dementia living in the community. The sample included 108 patient/caregiver dyads: the intervention group (n = 60) received the Home Safety Toolkit (HST), including a new booklet based on health literacy principles, and sample saf...
متن کاملAlzheimer’s disease multiple intervention trial (ADMIT): study protocol for a randomized controlled clinical trial
BACKGROUND Given the current lack of disease-modifying therapies, it is important to explore new models of longitudinal care for older adults with dementia that focus on improving quality of life and delaying functional decline. In a previous clinical trial, we demonstrated that collaborative care for Alzheimer's disease reduces patients' neuropsychiatric symptoms as well as caregiver stress. H...

BACKGROUND Early developmental interventions to prevent the high rate of neurodevelopmental problems in very preterm children, including cognitive, motor and behavioral impairments, are urgently needed. These interventions should be multi-faceted and include modules for caregivers given their high rates of mental health problems. METHODS/DESIGN We have designed a randomized controlled trial t...
متن کاملA Mobile Health Intervention Supporting Heart Failure Patients and Their Informal Caregivers: A Randomized Comparative Effectiveness Trial.
BACKGROUND Mobile health (mHealth) interventions may improve heart failure (HF) self-care, but standard models do not address informal caregivers' needs for information about the patient's status or how the caregiver can help. OBJECTIVE We evaluated mHealth support for caregivers of HF patients over and above the impact of a standard mHealth approach. METHODS We identified 331 HF patients f...
